The devotees took the opportunity to get involved in two eco demonstrations that coincided with the Copenhagen talks or as the call it, the "Hopenhagen" talks (cringe). The organisers describe it as the most important meeting since World War II. The concept of the demo was to send a strong message to Gordon Brown PM "That people in the UK want to see their government do all that is needed to deliver a strong and fair deal that puts poor people and the planet first at Copenhagen."
Many people feel it to be the 'midnight hour', and serious talks have been held in regard to vegetarianism and its positive effects on the environment. Many people feel it is a time to change our lifestyles and that consumerism is destroying the planet.
Thus a great opportunity has arisen for the devotees to present Srila Prabhupada’s solutions to the defects of a materialistic society.
The Climate Emergency Bike Ride was made up of hundreds of cyclists riding through the streets of London. The devotees became the star attraction with the mobile mahamantra. The 6 mile ride ended at Marble Arch when we joined up with the other 50,000 demonstrators. The devotees are famous for the Prasad distribution at the various demos and this event was no exception.
Subji, rice, cake and pancakes were distributed free to one and all. After the Prasad distribution we continued with the kirtan through all the major locations in Central London.
